Blindness has an enormous personal, social and economic cost limiting the education and life choices of otherwise healthy people thus placing a significant burden on family, community and health care services. 90 % of blind people live in the developing countries. Pakistan has a total number of about 3 million blind people and there is an annual increase of 0.15 million people. 80 % of this blindness is absolutely preventable provide the required management facilities are available at affordable cost. Cataract is the major cause of preventable blindness. The treatment cost is very low as compare to the threatening effects.
