Islamabad: 100,000 deaths per year have been reported due to different diseases caused by smoking. In a report, State Bank of Pakistan told that in year 2011, Pakistani nation has spent Rs.200 billion on smoking. Government should enforce its law on ban on smoking at public places and Educational institutions. Also the public should convince the people
involved in smoking that it is neither good for their own health nor for the society. Central President Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) Dr. Misbah-ul-Aziz, in his message on World No Tobacco Day, said that government has signed an International agreement in 2004 regarding ban on smoking at public places, but it has not been in place since then. Smoking has caused a number of diseases not only in the people engaged in smoking, but in the people who are passively smoking during travelling in public transport or at other public places. The situation is so worse that death due to smoking are far more than terrorism. He demanded ban on open sale of ‘Gutka’ and other similar things openly sold in market even after ban. Also he demanded a strict action from the government and concerning authorities on smoking in Educational institutions and other public places.
