Islamabad: International day for prevention of malaria was celebrated on 25th of April throughout the world including Pakistan. Recommending the allocation of Rupees One Billion for control of Malaria in the country, Pakistan Islamic Medical Association said that Malaria is curable disease but deteriorating sanitation and lack of prophylactic measures lead to death of one million people every year in the world because of this ailment and 57% of this figure

comprises of children under five. Stressing upon the preventive aspect to raise the health standard Dr. Misbah-ul-Aziz, the central President of PIMA said on this occasion, ‘All diseases need to be controlled at the initial stage to save the huge expense on treatment of these ailments at the complicated stage. This saving can be spent on public welfare and there can be a significant decrease in the load on the government hospitals by this. The unplanned urbanization of the population, deteriorating sewerage and bad sanitation are major causes of the spread of malaria’. He added ‘Cleanliness has been declared half of belief in Islam. Observing the Islamic principles of cleanliness in our day to day life can help control the diseases like malaria effectively in our society’.
